CLAIRE SEEKS YOUR SUPPORT!
Ruskington mother-of-two Claire Skelton is hoping to raise thousands of pounds for Breast Cancer Research by completing the Playtex Moonwalk – a night-time charity walk over the classic Marathon distance of 26.2 miles around central London, starting and finishing in Hyde Park.
Claire, who works for Simba International Ltd, the Sleaford-based manufacturer of agricultural equipment, is part of a team of four taking part in the event, teaming up with friends Lisa Savage and Amy and Jan Winters for the event:
“Every now and then I have a crazy idea, and this is the craziest yet”, said 34-year-old Claire, whose husband Pete and children Megan, aged four and George, aged one, are getting used to her disappearing for training walks in preparation for the event:
“I decided I needed a fresh challenge because looking after a husband, two children and working for a busy company simply is not enough! I haven’t really done anything athletic since school, so this is a big challenge”.
While she set an initial target of raising £1,500, the total donated and pledged is already spiralling towards £2,000, with plenty of time to go before the event, which will be held on May 16th 2009:
“I work as Purchase Ledger Supervisor, so I liase with all Simba’s suppliers. They have been incredibly supportive – as have all my work colleagues - despite the state of the economy. Dragging three friends into the walk with me has been very helpful. We keep each other going when we are all training by walking together”.
Simba’s Financial Director Dorothy Lyth says Claire is assured of the support of all her colleagues: “Claire is a very determined and committed colleague. I am sure that this, together with her great sense of humour, will help her and her friends complete the course. We all wish her every success”.
