Total flexibility, high output, low power.
All Sprinter drills have a Muller Control Box fitted, which further improves the operator’s control over all main drill functions. A new 8m model is also now available in the UK.3 Row Drills
Simba Horsch's CO and Sprinter drills offer users high output from a comparatively light, easily pulled cultivator drill which is equally at home on ploughing, in reduced tillage seedbeds or when used as a direct drill.
Their ability to drill all seed types with a high degree of accuracy make them a truly flexible drill which meets the needs of modern arable farmers. The Sprinter 4 only requires a tractor of around 150hp making it a very popular choice as so often a 4m cultivator drill requires 180-200hp. The aim is to invest in a new drill, not a new tractor as well!
The introduction of the Sprinter range further enhances this choice. Sprinters drill are available in 4m, 6m and 8m working widths - which effectively replaced the existing CO4 drill. They feature a more streamlined hopper which helps achieve complete seed clearance, while re-engineering has stripped some weight out of its construction, so reducing the power and fuel required to use it - a further economy which will be appreciated by users.
Like all Simba Horsch drills, they offer significant daily output. For instance, the Sprinter 6, easily handles 100 acres /day with tractors of 180hp - 200hp, bringing 'high output' drilling within the reach of many farmers for the first time.
The existing larger CO drills - the CO6, CO8 and CO9 - are popular with larger farmers and contractors, for whom the separate seed cart, effectively removes the weight concentration of the hopper from the coulter bar giving even weight distribution which is an important feature. Buyers of these drills can now specify the heavy-duty MultiGrip shank as an option. All drills use Horsch's unique Duett coulter. This spreads the seed in a broad band covering up to 80% of the seedbed - "band sowing" as it is called.
The coulters are at 25 cm spacings, so they have double the clearance of conventional row-sowing drills, which halves the number of ground contacting parts - reducing wearing metal bills, draught and diesel usage. The wider spacings between coulters enables the drill to handle the trashiest of seedbeds.
Three styles of coulter are available:
- A Duett - now with a shorter leading point for those farmers who do not want to use liquid fertiliser placement, the reduced point length further reducing horsepower requirements;
- The Delta coulter - which achieves accurate drilling in trashy conditions by raising the straw/trash, allowing the seed to be placed into the tilth underneath;
- The Solo coulter - which can drill beans at
up to 15 cms depth.
"Band Sowing" has a range of benefits, because spreading the seed across around 80% of the seedbed, giving all plants more space in which to develop compared with those sown in tight rows by a conventional drill.
As a result they develop larger, more efficient root systems, which enable them to access nutrients and moisture more effectively, while less plant v plant competition means crops do not become 'leggy'. Combined with the healthier root system, this greatly reduces lodging risks.
Wider spacings between plants also reduce crop canopy temperatures - cutting susceptibility to some diseases - and enabling the crop to shade out weeds very effectively.

New 2 Row Sprinter Drills
Over the last 2 years Simba Horsch have been developing the next generation of Airseeder drills. The new drills feature only 2 rows of coulters with coulters spaced at 30cm or 32cm (depending on model) with seed being spread in a wider band due to a wider bottom plate.
This has led to a more compact drill and a lower horsepower requirement.
In the 2 rows each coulter has its own individual covering disc system to ensure each Duett coulter has an even coverage of soil. Each seed row is then followed by the new inline packing system to consolidate the seed row. The new larger 7.50 x 16 AS tyre has a better rolling resistance for lighter soils and more durability.
A new feature for all Sprinter ST drills from 3m to 12m is they are all able to be fitted with the option of a full width front tyre packing system. This helps cultivate and consolidate the cultivated soil to ensure the best presented seed bed for the crop being sown.
As with all Simba Horsch drills large hoppers are an integral design to ensure high outputs to be achieved at a busy time of year. These go from a 3000 litre on the 3 ST to 8000 litres on the 12 ST.
All Sprinter ST drills (except 8 ST) can also be equipped with the double hopper allowing solid fertiliser to be precisely placed with the Duett PPF coulter.
